An Update

A quick update on the serious and light poetry divide. I submitted a few poems to a magazine and included with some light poems, mostly for variety, a 'serious' poem that I didn't think was quite as good, though still acceptable. Guess which one got accepted by the magazine earlier today.

Congratulations...? Maybe this is a sign that there is an opening in the marketplace for a humorous poetry journal. You could be the editor!

Oh cool! Congratulations! Better to be a humorous poet than no poet at all, eh? ;)

Don't give me ideas, Stephanie, I'm trying to do about twelve things at once most days anyway.

Heather, I'd quite enjoy it if the humorous stuff got more of a look in. This one though was the one serious poem in among the lighter stuff.

I'm coming up on this very problem for a collection of creative contemporary writing that I'm putting together with friends. Everything is so dang heavy that by the time you read the book, you'll want to lace your dinner with cyanide. Here's to hoping you place your humorous stuff soon. But congrats on the publication.

It's strange too, because I feel like I see humorous short fiction in literary journals all the time!

I have a feeling that there's slightly more scope for funny prose than poetry, simply because an average person is likely to read prose. Poetry is something fewer people read and is therefore Art, which of course is deathly serious.
